Who we are
“It’s A Goal!” is a local mental health peer support group. This app is provided to help members find support, view meeting details, and connect with the group.
For the purposes of UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), the group is the data controller. You can contact us about privacy at iag@mail.uk.
What this app is (and is not)
This app offers peer support and signposting to crisis helplines. It is not a medical, emergency, or counselling service and does not provide clinical advice. In an emergency, always call 999 or use the helplines listed in the app.
Information we collect
- Account details: your email address and a display name you choose when you register.
- Peer Chat messages: the messages you post in the shared chat room, stored with your user ID, display name, and the time sent.
- Membership status: whether your account is pending, approved, or revoked for the Peer Chat, managed by the group organiser.
- Safety records: if you report a message, we store which message it was, the reason you chose and a copy of its text so the organiser can look at it. If you block another member, we store that choice so their messages stay hidden from you.
- Notification data: if you enable daily supportive messages, we store the technical details needed to send them (a web push subscription on installed web apps, or a device push token on the mobile app).
- Basic usage analytics: on the web version we use PostHog to collect anonymous, aggregated usage information (such as which screens are opened) to help us improve the app.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not ask for or store health records, diagnoses, or clinical notes.
- We do not sell your personal information to anyone.
- We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and sign you in.
- To operate the Peer Chat and show your messages to other approved members.
- To let the group organiser approve or manage members of the chat.
- To send you daily supportive messages and occasional group notifications, only if you have opted in.
- To understand overall usage and improve the app (aggregated analytics on the web version).
Legal basis (UK GDPR)
- Consent — for sending notifications and for optional analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests — for running a safe, moderated peer support community and keeping the service secure.
- Contract — to provide the account and chat features you sign up to use.
Keeping the chat safe
Peer Chat is a shared room. Messages you post are visible to other approved members of the group and to the group organiser. Please do not share information in the chat that you would not want other members to see. The organiser may moderate the chat and remove members or messages to keep the group safe.
Under any message you can tap Report to send it to the organiser with a reason, or block the member who sent it so their messages no longer appear for you. A block is private — the other member is not told about it — and you can undo it in Settings. Reports are visible only to you and the organiser.
Where your data is stored
Your account, chat messages, and membership records are stored securely using our backend hosting provider. Data is protected by access rules so that, for example, you can only delete your own messages. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to keep your information secure.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself at any time: open Settings from the Help tab and tap “Delete my account”. That removes your sign-in, your display name, every message you have posted in the Peer Chat, your notification registrations, your blocked list and any reports you have made. It happens straight away and cannot be undone.
We keep your account and chat data for as long as you remain a member. If you are removed from the group, or you ask us to delete your data by email instead, we will delete your personal data unless we are required to keep some of it for legal reasons.
Your rights
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate information.
- Erasure — delete your account and personal data yourself in Settings, or ask us to do it.
- Restriction and objection — ask us to limit or stop certain processing.
- Withdraw consent — turn off notifications or opt out of analytics at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at iag@mail.uk. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children’s privacy
This app is intended for adults seeking peer support. It is not directed at children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
